English Cities Fund (ECF) has begun the construction works for the UK's first net-zero office building located in Salford.

ECF is a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General, and Homes England. The project involves the development of an 11-story office building with a surface area of 115,000 sq ft. and will also include retail spaces on the ground floor. The building will be operated only on renewable energy sources to meet the UK Green Building Council’s (UKGBC) ‘net zero’ operational targets.

Bowmer + Kirkland is the construction contractor for the project. The building will have 4,000 sqm of living façade which will envelop all sides. The facade will include plants from species such as Saracococca Confusa to Hyssopus Officinalis, which will be a source of nectar for bees.
