A team comprising Beca, Arup and Airbiz has been awarded an AUD1.9 billion (US$1.32 billion) design and management contract for the Melbourne Airport’s Third Runway (M3R) project in Australia.

The selected team will be responsible for designing, developing, constructing and operating a 3,000 m long runway to be built parallel to the existing north-south runway, 1.3 km to the west. The new runway will also include a network of new taxiways connecting it to the airport terminal.

The project intends to increase the airport's passenger capacity to 76 million persons per year by 2042.
