Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) has awarded a contract to Webuild and its consortium for a rail bypass project in Trento, Italy.

The contract includes:

  • the construction of the Trento Tunnel approximately 10.6 km;
  • two short sections above ground alongside the existing line;
  • rail bypass at Lot 3A; and
  • design and construction of an approximately 13 km rail line as part of a quadrupling of the Fortezza-Verona section of the high-speed railway south of the Brenner Base Tunnel.

For this project, four tunnel-boring machines (TBMs) will be deployed to excavate the tunnel helping accelerate the work. Lot 3A is a strategic project for the development of sustainable mobility in Italy under the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience.
