A city councilor of Ottawa has urged the city’s auditor general to probe the multi-billion contract of the second phase of Ottawa’s light-rail transit (LRT) project.

Capital ward Coun. Shawn Menard gave notice to his council colleagues about his plan of requesting Auditor General Ken Hughes to launch an investigation into the procurement process of the LRT stage 2 project. It has been alleged that the winning bidder for the north-south Trillium Line expansion project, SNC-Lavalin, was not able to meet the minimum technical requirement needed to qualify in delivering the project. The project involves the design, construction, financing and maintenance of a 16km extension to the Trillium light rail line in Ottawa. The project will extend the line farther south from Greenboro Station to Limebank Station, with a link to the Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport and adding eight new stations.

The State Auditor hasn't yet formally presented his audit work plan for 2019. The plans included will be subjected to approval by the audit committee and the city council.
