The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works in Ecuador has started the concession process for the expansion of Loja - Catamayo highway. The 32.35 kilometer long corridor is part of the Zamora – El Oro (Puerto Bolívar) mining highway. It connects most of the cantons of the province of Loja.

Under the concession, the private partner will expand the existing highway into four lanes with improved quality and safety standards. The concession period is 30 years. Currently, the road corridor is being used by approximately 86,345 vehicles per day. Once complete, it will provide a better connection to the Catamayo City airport, contributing to the economic growth, productivity, and tourism in the area.
