El Salvador approves San Salvador cargo terminal concession

The Government of El Salvador has approved and authorized Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA) to process the cargo terminal concession at San Salvador International Airport.

The concession involves the modernization and expansion of the current cargo terminal and the development of a new cargo terminal at the airport. The project aims to increase the airport's logistics capacity which will boost the economy of the country and will be implemented in two stages:

  1. The first stage includes financing, design, expansion, construction, equipment, maintenance improvement, and operation of the existing infrastructure as well as an increase in cargo capacity of the terminal from 26,000 metric tons to 52,000 metric tons per year. This stage will attract private investment of US$14 million.
  2. The second stage of the concession involves financing, design, construction, equipment, maintenance and operation of a new cargo terminal which will boost the cargo handling capacity of the terminal from 52,000 metric tons to 73,000 metric tons per year. The estimated investment amount for the second stage is US$49 million.

The concession period for the project is 35 years.
