Fife Council has taken ownership of the new £88 million (US$118 million) Caledonia High School in Rosyth. The keys were formally handed over by BAM Construction during a ceremony attended by Fife Council representatives, project partners and pupil ambassadors, signalling the transition from construction to operational readiness ahead of the school's opening in August 2026.
The new Caledonia High School has been developed to replace Inverkeithing High School, providing a modern learning environment designed to meet the needs of contemporary education. The three-storey facility accommodates more than 1,700 pupils and features flexible classrooms, specialist teaching areas, advanced digital learning facilities, collaborative spaces and outdoor environments that promote health and wellbeing. Its open "see and be seen" layout encourages visibility, interaction and a connected learning experience throughout the building.
Construction began in autumn 2024 on the former Rosyth Fleet Grounds, with BAM Construction leading the project in partnership with Fife Council and Hub East Central Scotland. The project also forms part of Fife Council's wider programme of investment in educational facilities, supported by the Scottish Government and the Scottish Futures Trust, to modernise school infrastructure across the region.
A key feature of the development is its commitment to sustainability. The school has been designed to Passivhaus standards, enabling it to consume substantially less energy than conventional school buildings while delivering a comfortable indoor environment and lower operating costs. Alongside its environmental performance, the building has been designed to provide inclusive, accessible and adaptable learning spaces that will support generations of pupils and serve the wider West Fife community. Following the handover, staff will prepare the building for occupation before pupils move into the new campus after the summer break on 19 August 2026. The opening of Caledonia High School marks a new chapter for education in West Fife, providing students with a future-ready learning environment that combines modern educational facilities with sustainable design principles.
