Final tender stage for Myanmar road PPP megaproject

Ministry of Construction (MOC) of Myanmar has announced that the final stage of the selection process in the tender for Phase 1 of the Yangon Elevated Expressway PPP project will be concluded on September 1, 2020. The project is valued at USD 900 million.

The tender was initially planned for April and later delayed for two months until June due to COVID-19. 53 companies had expressed interest in the project in 2018. Twelve companies submitted the proposals in November 2018. On December 10, 2018, a list of 10 shortlisted teams was announced. These companies will participate in the tender process this summer. You can see the list of shortlisted bidders on the project page.

The project involves the design, engineering, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of a 27.5-kilometer elevated toll road in Yangon. It is the first phase of a planned 47.5-kilometer expressway.

The expressway is proposed to be implemented on an elevated viaduct above existing roadways to connect Yangon's CBD in the south with the Yangon Industrial Park in the north. The expressway will also provide a link to Yangon International Airport. It will go through eight neighborhoods of Yangon: Mingalar Taung Nyunt, Tamwe, Thingangyun, South Okkalapa, North Okkalapa, Mayangone, Mingaladon and Insein. The expressway will be four-lane and 8 to 19.5 meters in height.
