Greece launches tender for EUR370mn road PPP

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Transport in Greece has launched a tender notice seeking a private developer to upgrade Eastern Inner Regional Road in Thessaloniki. The project will be implemented on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis.

The project will involve:

  • the development, financing and upgrade of the Eastern Inner Thessaloniki Road from A/K K5 (Papageorgiou Hospital) to A/K K12 (connection with EO Thessaloniki - Moudania), with the addition of an elevated expressway (flyover), and
  • the operation and maintenance of the entire Inner Peripheral Thessaloniki Road, from A/K K16 (connection with P. Α.Θ.Ε.) to Α/Κ Κ12.

The Eastern Inner Regional Thessaloniki road will be a 13 km long highway and will involve the construction of the following sections and works:

  • Upgrading of the 9.5 km long section from Level Junction-K5 (area of ​​Papageorgiou Hospital - former Karatasos camp) to the area of ​​"GENESIS" Hospital with the addition of an Elevated Expressway.
  • Widening of 3.5 km long section "GENESIS" - Level Junction-K12 (connection with Thessaloniki-Moudania National Road)

By 2030 the project is expected to serve 7,500 cars per hour in each direction. The concession period for the project is 30 years, out of which 4 years will be the construction period.  

The estimated project value is EUR 373.2 million (US$ 441.82 million).
