The Ministry of Public Works announced the progress of the construction of the Iquique - Alto Hospicio Cable Car project in Chile.

The upcoming public transportation concession project is poised to require an investment of nearly US$108 million. Upon its operational launch, it is expected to serve approximately 35,000 passengers daily. The Cable Car system is designed with cabins accommodating 10 seated passengers each, operating at an average speed of 6 m/sec. (22 km/h) and departing every 12 seconds. This configuration enables a maximum capacity of 3,000 passengers per hour in each direction, facilitating travel between the endpoints of the 5.5-km route in an estimated 16-minute timeframe. The system includes passenger stations in the Los Cóndores area in Alto Hospicio, Tadeo Haenke, and the Rotonda El Pampino in the commune of Iquique, along with a fourth technical station.

The Iquique – Alto Hospicio Cable Car project is set to undergo the tendering process in Q1 of 2024.
