Gateshead Council has signed a Pre‑Development Agreement with Muse Places, supported by supply chain partners English Cities Fund (ECF) — a joint venture of Homes England, Legal & General and Muse — to work together on shaping the future of the riverside neighbourhood with around 1,600 new homes, offices and community spaces as part of the borough’s wider regeneration strategy.
The Baltic Quarter is a key regeneration priority for Gateshead Council, with its strategy launched in September 2025. The area already features a vibrant community, including businesses, the Gateshead College campus, the Northern Design Centre, a sustainable District Energy Network (powered by the UK's largest urban solar farm and naturally warmed mine water), and a new 1,000-space car park with EV charging potential. The ambitious plans aim to create a new mixed-use neighbourhood that builds on the site's industrial heritage while delivering modern benefits:
