Federal court has ruled in favor of North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) over a lawsuit filed by conservation groups and a local organization opposed to a mid-Currituck bridge over the Currituck Sound between Corolla and the mainland. The bridge will have a toll roadway which would span 7 miles of open water and swampland between Aydlett and Corolla.

Construction works for the bridge are expected to begin in 2023. The estimated project cost is under US$500 million.
