Philippines focuses on multibillion tourism PPP projects

The Department of Tourism (DOT) of the Philippines along with other government agencies held a meeting to solicit inputs on agency initiatives focusing on tourism development for 2022 to 2023. The Tourism Development Plan is a priority program of the economic development cluster.

Currently, the country’s PPP program has several tourism projects under implementation:

  • The Rizal Park Western Section Development Project is jointly developed by the PPP Center and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority. This project involves the redevelopment of Rizal Park to preserve its cultural significance while optimizing the engagement of the private sector in the financing, design, improvement, construction, and operation and maintenance of the park and its facilities and attractions.
  • The PPP Center is also assisting the University of the Philippines with the UP-Los Baños Agro-Industrial and Information Technology Parks Project.
  • The PHP2.06 billion (US$40.08 million) property development projects such as the Clark TIEZA Tourism Enterprise Zone, which is a 150-room three-star hotel, and the Mt. Data Lodge Project.
  • The PHP12.5 billion (US$246.18 million) Clark International Airport Expansion project involves Engineering, Procurement and Construction and Operation and Maintenance implemented by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority.

The authority believes more public-private partnerships can play a vital role in this much-needed infrastructure for tourism-led economic recovery from pandemic.
