The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has planned to award two large electrical transmission projects, whose reference investment amounts exceed US$ 800 million in seven departments of Peru.

These are the following two projects that together will incorporate approximately 1,044 km of high voltage lines (500 kV):

  • The 500 kV Huánuco-Tocache-Celendín-Trujillo Link (US$561 million), along with its extensions and associated substations, will establish an alternative route for transmitting electrical energy between the Central and Northern regions of the country. This transmission line initiates from the Huánuco 500 kV Substation and connects the new Tocache and Celendín 500 kV Substations, eventually linking with the Trujillo 500 kV Substation. In case of contingencies, energy will be supplied from the Trujillo 500 kV arrival substation to the connected substations: La Niña, Piura, and Chimbote. The project will cover the departments of Huánuco, San Martín, Cajamarca, and La Libertad.
  • The 500 kV Celendín-Piura Link (US$272 million), along with its expansions and associated substations, will establish an alternative route for transmitting electrical energy between the Central and the far North regions of the country. It will originate from the Celendín 500 kV Substation, connecting it to the newly established Piura Nueva 500 kV Substation. In case of contingencies, energy will be redirected from the Piura Nueva 500 kV arrival substation to the connected 500 kV substations: La Niña and Trujillo. Additionally, this project will enhance reliability and augment transfers in the Peru-Ecuador 500 kV interconnection. The development will span the departments of Cajamarca, Amazonas, Lambayeque, and Piura.

The public tender has six companies and/or consortia that obtained their qualification as bidders:

  1. Celeo Redes, SLU;
  2. Cobra Facilities and Services SA;
  3. Alupar Perú SAC;
  4. Electrical Interconnection SAESP;
  5. AO Consortium (Acciona Concesiones de Infraestructuras SL and Omega Perú Operación y Gestión SA); and
  6. Conelsur SAC.

The execution of these projects will enhance energy supply reliability and boost transmission capacity to cater to the rising demand for electricity. It will also enhance the operational efficiency of the transmission system in the concerned regions, serving as a crucial foundation for the advancement of commercial, industrial, and service-related activities.
