Promotion of consultation process for drinking water and sanitation project in Paraguay

The Department of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), through the Drinking Water and Sanitation Authority (DAPSAN), is advancing the consultation process for the Drinking water and sanitation public-private partnership (PPP) project at Villa Hayes, Paraguay.

The stage of field research on the project has been completed and the Executive Design of the plant is being prepared. MOPC, Kyowa Engineering Consultants Co Ltd and TEC International Co., Ltd. (TECI) signed an agreement on December 30, 2022, to start a consultation. The participants in the project include the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), MOPC through the Drinking Water and Sanitation Authority (DAPSAN) and Empresa de Servicios Sanitarios del Paraguay SA (ESSAP).

The project involves the improvement of the drinking water supply system in the city of Villa Hayes, Department of President Hayes, Paraguay. The aim of the project is to optimize the supply of drinking water to more than 31,500 residents of the city of Villa Hayes, which will significantly improve the quality of life of this part of the Chaco population. The project includes infrastructure for raw water intake from the Paraguay River; raw water adduction pipes; treatment Plant of Drinking Water (PTAP); renewal of the network of pipes for transporting and distributing treated water and a new system for monitoring the operation of the plant.

The start of work on the project is expected in September 2023.
