The People's Committee of Quang Tri province has submitted to the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport for consideration and approval of a new road project as the addition to the expressway construction project for the period 2021-2025. The Cam Lo - Lao Bao highway is proposed to be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The project involves the development of a 70 km long, 4-lane highway, which runs in the east-west direction of the province, connecting Cam Lo district with Lao Bao international border gate, Huong Hoa district. The estimated total investment in the project is VND7,700 billion (US$334.86 million), of which the state capital from the central budget is 28.31%, with a payback period of 19 years. 

The aim of the project is to meet the growing needs of transporting import-export and transit goods, by connecting national roads with international border gates and regional seaports.
