The Ministry of Digital Governance has launched a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFBB) project in Greece, inviting companies that have expressed interest and entered the competition. In particular, the following companies:

  • Wind Hellas Telecommunications;
  • Vodafone Panafon Hellenic Telecommunications;
  • Public Electricity Company;
  • AVAX Group;
  • Mytilineos Group – METKA EGN LTD;
  • INTRACOM Constructions;
  • OTE Group;
  • TERNA Energy Group – Grid Telecom.

The project will accelerate the deployment of broadband internet by developing next-generation access (NGA) infrastructure, delivering services at a very fast speed to users throughout the country. The installation will take place in so-called white NGA areas, where private operators have no plans to make the necessary upgrades due to a lack of profitability.

The UFBB project will be financed the following way: EUR300 million (US$357.95 million) will come from public funding, EUR265 million (US$316.2 million) from the European Regional Development Fund, EUR35 million (US$41.8 million) from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Rural Development Programme. The total investment is estimated at EUR700 million (US$835.2 million).

The deadline to submit the responses is September 17, 2021.
