Saudi Arabia has opened the Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane manufacturing facility in Dammam. The plant, located in Dammam’s Third Industrial City, represents an investment of SAR1 billion (US$266 million). It was established through a joint venture between Abunayyan Holding of Saudi Arabia and Japan’s Toray Industries. The facility has an annual production capacity of about 300,000 RO membranes, which are used in desalination and industrial water treatment applications.
The plant is designed to advance Saudi Arabia’s push to produce desalination components domestically, a crucial move for a sector that provides the majority of the nation’s drinking water. Regional demand for RO membranes is projected to be roughly 700,000 units each year.
