TransEd has announced that cracks were found in some of the piers supporting the elevated LRT tracks on the Valley Line Southeast LRT public-private partnership (PPP) project.

TransEd engineering teams started working on the preliminary root cause analysis for the cracks. The work on concrete supports continues and trains are being tested. The cracks in the 21 piers supporting elevated tracks are caused by lateral thermal forces and other causes are still being analyzed. In August, TransEd announced that the Valley Line Southeast LRT will not be opening in Summer 2022.

TransEd Partners General provides real estate and construction services in Canada. The company is building the first phase of the LRT, which will connect Mill Woods to downtown Edmonton via light rail for about 13.1 kilometers. In a public-private partnership (PPP) with the City of Edmonton, TransEd Partners is responsible for not only designing and building stage one of the Valley Line LRT but also to operate and maintaining the line for 30 years.
