The Turkish consortium comprised of Cengiz Construction, Kalyon Construction, and Kolin Construction, has withdrawn from the concession and development of the Vlora Airport in Albania.

On January 2018, The Government of Albania has received an official request to develop an airport near Vlora from the Turkish consortium. The request was released with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan backing the project. However, the recent result of the election in Turkey could have attributed to the withdrawal of the three companies in the project.

Aside from the recent change in the political landscape of the Turkish Government, the Vlora Airport along with the National Theater concessions have drawn criticisms from the European Commission citing the questionable legal construction of special concession law created for the purpose of pushing the two projects.

The Ministry for Infrastructure and Energy announced that international competition will be held for the development of Vlora Airport: ¨We officially confirm that there will be an international competition for ‘Vlora International Airport’ because of great interest by investors. And this process will fulfill all legal conditions and elements of transparency.¨
