Unity Digital Infrastructure Inc. (Unity) has announced it has signed a Sale and Purchase Agreement and a Master Agreement with PLDT Inc. (PLDT), through its subsidiaries Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and Digitel Mobile Philippines (Digitel), for the acquisition of 650 telecommunications towers and related passive telecommunications infrastructure for PHP9.2 billion (US$165 million) through a sale and leaseback transaction.

Unity is a joint venture between Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) and Partners Group. The transaction includes the purchase of towers located in the Visayas and Mindanao areas. The acquisition expands Unity's portfolio of strategic facilities across the country. Once purchased, Aboitiz will be able to help fill gaps in connectivity and internet access in the Philippines.

UBS AG acted as the exclusive financial advisor to PLDT and Smart. The deal is expected to close in 2023.
