China Everbright to acquire Tirana airport concession

Tirana International Airport shpk (TIA), the consortium that manages the Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza (Mother Theresa) in Albania, has recently announced that the concessionaire is in negotiations with China Everbright Limited, the Chinese financial services company in asset management, direct investment, brokerage and investment banking.

The Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza is currently Albania's only international airport. It is commonly known as Rinas International Airport, as it is located in the village of Rinas 11 kilometers northwest of Tirana. In 2001, the airport was named after Mother Teresa. It serves as a focus city for Alitalia, Blue Panorama Airlines, and Adria Airways.

According to local sources, the head of Tirana International Airport shpk (TIA) has revealed that China Everbright Limited has shown interest in buying the company and that the sale negotiations have started.

The airport has been managed and operated by Tirana International Airport shpk (TIA) since 23 April 2005 when it signed a concession period for 20 years. Additionally the concession agreement has been recently extended 2 more years, until 2027.

The consortium is composed of AviAlliance GmbH (47% of the shares), DEG Deutsche Investitions (31.7% of the shares) and the Albanian-American Enterprise Fund (AAEF), which posses the remaining 21.3% of the shares.
