The Consorcio Electro-Cointer submitted the sole bid for the public tender of the Ruta 160 Public Transport Corridor Concession, which involves an investment of US$171 million. The project envisions the development of approximately 14 km of bidirectional public transportation corridor along Route 160 in Chile’s Biobío Region.
The Route 160 Public Transportation Corridor Concession will have a route extending between Daniel Belmar Street, in the municipality of San Pedro de la Paz, and the Escuadrón I Industrial Park, in the city of Coronel, encompassing one of the main connecting axes of Greater Concepción. In this way, the project will provide continuity to the existing corridors in Coronel and San Pedro de la Paz, contributing to improved connectivity, travel times, and road safety. The project's execution includes two sectors. Sector A has an approximate length of 7.3 km and covers the section between Daniel Belmar and Avenida Cuatro Sur, in the municipality of San Pedro de la Paz, corresponding to the urban boundary with Coronel. For its part, Sector B comprises approximately 6.9 km, from Avenida Cuatro Sur to the access to the Escuadrón I Industrial Park, in the commune of Coronel, where the main connection and access works will be developed.
The initiative also includes the creation of bus stop platforms in the medians that separate the corridor from the external roadways for private vehicles, the regularization of level crossings with the railway, the construction of pedestrian crossings and bus stops, and the execution of three grade-separated crossings that will connect Route 160 with the coastal edge in the Michaihue, Carlos Pezoa Véliz and Escuadrón sectors. Additionally, the project includes the implementation of a two-way bike lane on the west side of the roadways, along with pedestrian walkways on both sides of the route, promoting safer mobility.
