The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that five teams have been shortlisted for the Delhi - Meerut road PPP project.

The project will be developed on a design, build, finance, operation and maintenance (DBFOM) basis. The five shortlisted teams are the following:

• SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited and Obrascon Huarte Lain S.A.;
• TRIL Roads Pvt. Ltd., Vinci Concessions Pte Ltd. and Sadbhav Engineering Ltd.;
• IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd.;
• INDUS Concession India Pvt. Ltd. and Oriental Structural Engineers Pvt. Ltd.; and
• Uniquest Infra Ventures Pvt. Ltd.

The Request for proposals has been launched. The deadline to submit proposals is 6 June 2014.

The project involves the development of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The project also includes the construction of other connecting roads including 6/8-laning of NH-24 from Km 0 to Km 49.923 (Hapur Bypass), 6-laning of NH-58 from km 6.800 (Delhi - UP Border) to km 52.528 (Meerut Bypass) and NH-235 from km 0.360 to 8.80 in the State of Delhi & Uttar Pradesh.

Latest movements in the Indian transport PPP sector include:

• The Eastern Peripheral Expressway: The project under public-private partnership (PPP) model has been cancelled due to the fact it has failed to attract any developers.
• The Jawaharlal Nehru port (JNPT) fourth terminal: The concession contract has been signed between Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Private Limited (BMCT) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).
• The Four Laning of Yedeshi - Aurangabad section of NH-211: The project has recently been awarded to IRB Infrastructure.
