The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has received bids from 13 business groups interested in the La Dorada - Chiriguaná railway corridor project.
With an investment of US$ 85.242 billion, the Government of Change is advancing the merit-based selection process for the supervisory role, which will oversee the work of the Línea Férrea Central consortium on the La Dorada–Chiriguaná railway corridor over six years. The selected supervisory firm will be responsible for monitoring a wide range of areas, including technical, economic, financial, accounting, legal, social, logistical, property-related, environmental, network, administrative, insurance, risk management, operational, maintenance, safety, and quality aspects of both the railway infrastructure and its operation. Along the La Dorada–Chiriguaná railway corridor, 1,480 hydraulic structures will be constructed to help mitigate future flooding risks. Additionally, 205.5 km of track will be upgraded from 75 lb/yd to 115 lb/yd rail. The project also includes the replacement of wooden and concrete sleepers, enhancement of the ballast, refurbishment of rolling stock, and the construction of key infrastructure in the municipality of La Dorada—namely, an administrative building, an Operational Control Center, two train maintenance workshops, and a Cargo Transfer Center.
The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) currently oversees three railway corridors: Bogotá–Belencito, La Dorada–Chiriguaná, and Chiriguaná–Santa Marta. Collectively, these corridors transported 31.8 million tons of goods in 2024, including coal, cement, scrap metal, iron ore, coffee, cleaning supplies, ceramics, dairy products, packaging materials, chemical inputs, finished plastic goods, and consumer items like toilet paper. Specifically, the La Dorada–Chiriguaná corridor moved over 225,000 tons in 2024, and has already transported 379,000 tons in 2025—the highest volume in the past five years. In the long term, the corridor is projected to handle up to 2.8 million tons of cargo annually.
