The Ministry of Transport and the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) have announced that the Canal del Dique restoration project in Colombia is progressing as planned, with no current risks to its continuity.
On April 23, 2025, the ANI and the Ministry signed an addendum ("Otrosí") to the concession contract, ensuring the continuation of this strategic project for the communities of Bolívar, Atlántico, and Sucre. This agreement extends the pre-construction phase and includes procedures for approving environmental impact studies, which are essential for obtaining the necessary environmental license to proceed with construction.
The Canal del Dique project aims to restore degraded ecosystems along its 117 km stretch, benefiting 20 municipalities across Bolívar, Sucre, and Atlántico. With an investment of approximately COP 3.25 trillion (US$ 769 million), the project is expected to generate around 7,600 jobs and significantly reduce flood risks in the region.
