Eight projects around England will share £68 million (US$79 million) in new support from the Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF), bringing the total amount awarded by the programme to over £ 500 million. The Stockport district heat network has been granted £14.65 million for its commercialisation and construction phases. Scheduled to break ground as early as 2026/27, the scheme plans to deploy heat pumps that will capture and upgrade waste heat from a nearby sewer system to provide low-carbon heating. Energy, backed by Milton Keynes City Council, has been awarded over £17.6 million for the Milton Keynes Energy Network (MKEN). The funding will support the design of both the energy centre and the wider heat-network infrastructure, to deliver low-carbon heat to city buildings from 2028 using air-source heat pump technology. The Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF) is a multi-year capital grant programme, launched in March 2022 and expected to run until 2030. It offers support to public, private, and third-sector organisations in England and finances only those heat-network schemes that rely on low-carbon heat sources. The organisations receiving funding through the GHNF are:
