ACCIONA has agreed with Darby International Capital to acquire the Machupichu-Quencoro-Onocora-Tintaya transmission line project concession and its related substations.
The project, which involves an investment of EUR 250 million (US$ 284 million), comprises the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance for 30 years of a 330-km-long 220kV line, as well as the construction of two new substations (Quencoro Nueva and Onocora) and the expansion of three existing substations (Suriray, Quencoro and Tintaya Nueva).
Once it starts operations in 2028, this project will entail the creation of a new 220kV power transmission corridor with 300MVA of capacity, which will increase the transmission of electricity to the south of Peru, covering the city of Cusco’s entire demand, of which only a part is met currently. Additionally, it will improve the reliability of the existing transmission systems in the southeastern area of Peru’s National Interconnected Electrical System (SEIN), providing two new substations that will reduce the region’s current overload and congestion problems and will also allow the connection of future renewable energy generation plants.
