The Government of Chile has signed a decree that will terminate the contract with Astaldi as project owner for La Punilla Reservoir concession. The decree is currently in process at Comptroller's Office. Once the administrative process is finished the tender for choosing the new concessionaire will begin. The Ministry of Public Works of Chile is planning to launch the tendering process before the end of 2021.

The project has an estimated investment value of US$500 million. La Punilla concession involves the construction of a multipurpose reservoir for irrigation with a capacity of more than 550 hm3, which will benefit the communities of San Carlos, Chillán, Ñiquén, San Nicolás, Coihueco, and San Fabián de Alico. The project will lead to better irrigation security and flood control as well as facilitate effective irrigation of up to 60,000 hectares.
