Community Health Partnerships (CHP) has partnered with NHS organisations and local health systems to deliver the first NHS Neighbourhood Rebuild Programme projects, repurposing existing community healthcare facilities across England, including sites in Birmingham, Barrow-in-Furness, Truro, and London.
The commencement of construction works at the health centre marks a significant milestone, as it is the first CHP site in the programme's initial wave to enter the delivery phase, demonstrating strong local progress. In collaboration with Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB), Eric Wright Group, and local healthcare partners, CHP will redevelop the existing facility into a modern neighbourhood health hub, enhancing access to healthcare services and bringing more care closer to the local community.
The £2.1 million (US$2.8 million) redevelopment project will make use of previously underused areas within the facility to accommodate a wider range of healthcare services, including mental health support, primary care network teams, and community-based services, all co-located within a single hub. The scheme also illustrates how effective collaboration between estate specialists, regional healthcare partners, and funding bodies can successfully translate national healthcare policy into local delivery. Serving a community with considerable healthcare needs, the Barbara Castle Way redevelopment underscores the importance of modern community health infrastructure in enabling the broader healthcare system’s transition towards preventative care and locally accessible services.
