The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) signed with the “Consorcio LSH Consulting Engineers SAC – Agua Energía y Minería Ingenieros Consultores SA” (Peruvian–German companies) the contract to prepare pre-investment studies that allow defining the viability and mechanism investment of the Chinecas irrigation project, in Áncash, Peru.

The preliminary investment assessments will span 14 months, culminating in the project's viability declaration. PROINVERSIÓN will oversee the design, execution, and transaction phases, as well as the tender process to select a specialized concessionaire for the development of Chinecas.

This initiative necessitates an investment exceeding US$ 700 million, aimed at diverting water from the Santa River to integrate 50,000 hectares of new agricultural land and enhance irrigation across an additional 33,000 hectares in the Santa Lacramarca, Nepeña, Casma, and Huarmey valleys. Moreover, these resources will serve to cater to the local population's water needs within the project's vicinity and explore feasible hydroelectric exploitation. Presently, the Chinecas project boasts operational infrastructure, including two river intakes, canals, and tunnels extending into the Nepeña Valley. Future developments entail constructing a primary intake and reservoirs for water regulation from the Santa River, alongside extending main channels to the Casma and Huarmey valleys.
