The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) of Paraguay has announced that Bella Vista WWTP public-private partnership (PPP) project in Bañado Norte is completed by 95%.

The wastewater treatment plant will start operating by the end of Q1 of 2023. At this stage, the work involves the assembly and installation of mechanical and electrical equipment. Part of the work includes the installation of the medium voltage overhead line and electrical equipment of switchboard booths and buildings, as well as the electrical installation of the switchboard building of the electrical substation. Currently, finishing works and adaptation of buildings and some concrete works of one of the pumping stations are ongoing.

The plant will be able to process wastewater containing all garbage, solid waste, sand, oil and grease which will reduce the contamination load in the Paraguay River. The launch of the station will improve the quality of life of the entire population and will have a beneficial effect on the environment. The construction of the station is part of the sanitation program for the Gulf of Asuncion and the metropolitan area from MOPC. The station will be able to process a flow of 4,400 l of wastewater per second.

The project will benefit 1,200,000 people with a planned investment of PYG105,000 million (US$15.03 million) from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
