The Ministry of Public Works has started the construction of a 5.2 km long section of the Américo Vespucio Oriente II (AVO II) highway with three lanes in each direction and will run through the communes of La Reina, Ñuñoa, Macul and Peñalolén in Chile.

The 5.2-km extension marks a transformative development for the Américo Vespucio ring, elevating it to a high-standard road and creating almost 4.7 ha of green spaces. This comprehensive initiative integrates exclusive lanes for public transportation, a cycle path spanning over 15 km, and more than 47000 m2 of lush greenery. Anticipated for completion in 2028, this segment consists of two tunnels, each featuring three tracks, and is designed as a mining tunnel, situated at depths ranging from 23 to 54 m beneath Metro Line 4. The project represents a substantial investment of approximately US$815 million.

Travel time over this 5.2 km is expected to reduce drastically from 30 minutes to just 5 minutes. The overall journey from El Salto (AVO I) to Los Presidentes (AVO 2) is estimated to take only 10 minutes. Notably, this roadway will seamlessly connect to the north with AVO I and to the south with Vespucio Sur.
