Contract awarded for high-speed rail link and station project in Florence

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI, Gruppo FS Italiane) has awarded the contract to the consortium formed by Impresa Pizzarotti & C. and Saipem for the construction of the Florence high-speed/high-capacity railway link and station in Florence, Italy.

The work consists of excavating a 7 km tunnel and building Firenze Belfiore station, designed by Foster Partners and consulting engineer Arup. The new line is intended to separate high-speed inter-city trains from the Tuscan regional network. Pizzarotti leads the consortium with a share of about EUR551 million (US$580.8 million), while Saipem's share is about EUR529 million (US$557.6 million).
