GEK TERNA has been named provisional contractor for two PPP road projects, involving the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the Thessaloniki–Edessa and Drama–Amfipoli road axes in Northern Greece.
The projects concern the Thessaloniki–Edessa and Drama-Amfipoli road axes and will involve their design, construction and financing, as well as operation and maintenance throughout the concession period. Under the first PPP, approximately 25 km of the EO2 road axis will be constructed or upgraded, including the Mavrovouni-Edessa section and the Giannitsa and Chalkidona bypasses. The project also covers the operation and maintenance of the approximately 52-km Axios Bridge-Edessa axis.
The second PPP covers the construction and upgrading of approximately 43 km of the Drama-Amfipoli road axis, including nine grade-separated interchanges, as well as the operation and maintenance of the main route.
GEK TERNA was selected as the provisional contractor through two separate competitive tender processes, each attracting three bidding consortia. In both tenders, the company’s bid was rated the most economically advantageous based on the best price-to-quality ratio. The projects are scheduled for construction over three years, followed by a 27-year operational period. They are expected to enhance road infrastructure and strengthen connectivity across Northern Greece.
