The GEO Group, Inc., a U.S.-based company providing correctional, detention, and government support services, announced on October 5, 2026, that it had completed the sale of its Adelanto ICE Processing Center Complex in California to the United States government through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The transaction involved three facilities: Adelanto West ICE Processing Center, with a capacity of 1,280 beds; Adelanto East ICE Processing Center, with 660 beds; and Desert View Annex, with 704 beds. Together, these facilities have a total capacity of 2,644 beds. The aggregate gross sale price was US$950 million.

After accounting for federal and state taxes, transaction fees, and other expenses, GEO Group expects to receive approximately $705 million in net proceeds from the sale. The transaction represents a significant asset monetization initiative, allowing the company to convert its ownership of detention facilities into cash. The company intends to use the proceeds, along with cash flow generated from its operations, to reduce outstanding debt, repurchase shares of its common stock, and fund other general corporate purposes. These measures are expected to provide greater financial flexibility and support the company's capital allocation strategy.

An important aspect of the transaction is that GEO Group expects to continue providing operational support services at all three facilities under its existing contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Although ownership of the facilities has transferred to the federal government, GEO intends to maintain its role in their operation and management. The contract's current term runs through December 19, 2029, with a five-year option period extending the potential term through December 19, 2034. This arrangement allows GEO to monetize its real estate assets while potentially retaining revenue from its service operations, although the continuation of the contract remains subject to its terms and applicable government funding.
