Liberty Global closed acquisition of Vodafone

Liberty Global has announced its acquisition of 1.34 billion shares representing a 4.92% stake in Vodafone Group PLC (Vodafone).

The investment in Vodafone is part of Liberty Global’s investment portfolio of more than 75 companies and funds across content, technology, and infrastructure, including stakes in companies such as ITV, Televisa Univision, AtlasEdge, Plume, and the Formula E racing series.

A large nonrecourse loan that required roughly EUR225 million (US$241.43 million) of equity from Liberty Global was primarily used to finance the purchase.

Liberty Global is a world leader in converged broadband, video and mobile communications services. It delivers next-generation products through advanced fiber and 5G networks, currently provides over 86 million fixed and mobile connections across Europe and UK. Its businesses operate under some of the best-known consumer brands, including Virgin Media-O2 in the UK, VodafoneZiggo in The Netherlands, Telenet in Belgium, Sunrise in Switzerland, Virgin Media in Ireland and UPC in Slovakia.

Vodafone Group plc is a British multinational telecommunications company. Its registered office and global headquarters are in Newbury, Berkshire, England. It predominantly operates services in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Oceania.
