The Paraguay Ministry of Public Works and Communications has reported 60% work completion on the San Pedro and Concepción Northern Corridor (route PY22) project.

Through soil movement, drainage improvements, and structural construction, the new route project will effectively shorten the distance by over 100 km between the San Pedro and Concepción departments. Located northwest of San Pedro and southeast of Concepción, the endeavor will directly benefit approximately 400,000 residents in districts including San Pedro del Ycuamandyyú, Nueva Germania, Concepción, Horqueta, and Belén, with indirect benefits extending to all northern region inhabitants. The project is segmented into three lots:

  • Lot 1 spans from the Yacare Ñe'ē intersection in San Pedro del Ycuamandyyú to km 50, managed by Ecomipa.
  • Lot 2 covers km 50 to km 89 in Belén, Concepción department, featuring a 200-meter bridge over the Ypané River and access to the Ybapovó port across 17.20 km, overseen by the Consorcio Vial Oriental.
  • Lot 3 extends from Horqueta to km 24.5 in Belén along route D029, then continues to Concepción at km 44 along route PY22, managed by Constructora Acaray.

Funded entirely by the Mercosur Structural Convergence Fund (FOCEM), the project, titled "Physical Connectivity Project in the Departments of San Pedro and Concepción," involves an investment of PYG 658 billion (US$ 87 million) across the three sections.
