PROINVERSIÓN is promoting a wastewater treatment project with private sector participation in the Junín region of Peru to improve sanitation services for more than 320,000 residents.
The “Sanitation Services in the Provinces of Chanchamayo and Concepción, Department of Junín” project also known as the Chanchamayo and Concepción Wastewater Treatment Plant is planned to be implemented through a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model. Currently in the formulation stage, the initiative is expected to require an investment of more than US$296 million and aims to benefit over 320,000 people across the cities of La Merced, Santa Ana (Perené), Sanganí (Perené), Pichanaqui, Concepción, and Nueve de Julio in the Junín region. The project will involve the construction and improvement of essential infrastructure, including main sewer networks, pumping stations, wastewater treatment facilities, and final disposal systems such as landfills.
The implementation of the project is expected to help lower pollution levels in the Chanchamayo, Perené, Achamayo, and Mantaro rivers, while enhancing public health standards. It will also create broader benefits, including support for tourism, stimulation of local economic growth, and opportunities for the reuse of treated wastewater. This initiative forms part of the Government’s broader strategy to speed up the reduction of infrastructure gaps under the APP 5.0 framework, which focuses on increasing project predictability, strengthening institutional coordination, and encouraging greater private sector involvement in delivering sustainable infrastructure nationwide.
