De Werkvennootschap has selected the R0Q consortium, comprising Jan De Nul, BESIX, Stadsbader, Willemen, and I4B, as the preferred bidder for the redevelopment of the Brussels Ring Road (R0) in Belgium's Zaventem area.

The project involves the redevelopment of the Brussels Ring Road (R0) in the Zaventem zone of Belgium, representing the first zone to be addressed under the large-scale redevelopment of the northern section of the ring road through the “Werken aan de Ring” (Working on the Ring) programme. With a construction cost of more than €1.5 billion (US$1.711 billion), the scheme is intended to improve traffic flow and road safety while also enhancing the liveability of the surrounding areas. The initial zone covers Machelen, Zaventem and Kraainem. 

The works will include the construction of a new parallel road structure to better separate through traffic from local traffic, alongside the upgrade of around 7 km of motorway. The project also includes approximately 6 km of cycling infrastructure and 7 km of new walking paths, as well as the construction or modification of more than 70 bridges and tunnels. Additional measures include water-retention facilities, noise barriers and green structures. 

The R0Q consortium, comprising Jan De Nul, BESIX, Stadsbader, Willemen and I4B, has been selected by De Werkvennootschap as the preferred bidder for the project. The scheme will be delivered under a DBFM (Design, Build, Finance and Maintain) contract, under which the consortium will be responsible for designing, constructing and financing the infrastructure and maintaining it for up to 30 years after completion. The redevelopment is intended to take an integrated approach to mobility, road safety, quality of life, nature development and water management. The project is therefore not limited to upgrading the motorway itself, but also includes measures aimed at improving connections for cyclists and pedestrians and mitigating the infrastructure's impact on nearby communities and the environment.
