Acwa Power has announced that it has signed a public-private partnership agreement worth US$400 million contract with the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA) to develop the country’s first large-scale water reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant on the Caspian Sea.
The project scope covers the design, construction, financing, ownership, and long-term operation and maintenance of the Caspian Sea Water Desalination Plant. The PPP scheme will be executed by the Government of Azerbaijan, with ADSEA acting as the public-sector partner and the Caspian Sea Azerbaijan Project Company serving as the project entity. Under the agreement, ACWA Power will own 100% of the project company. The project supports ACWA Power’s growth strategy, reinforcing its ambition to position itself as a leading global developer in renewable energy, water desalination, and green hydrogen by expanding its portfolio of large-scale projects both domestically and internationally. The agreement has a total term of 27.5 years, inclusive of the construction phase.
