Shortlist for AUD 1.5 billion hospital project in Australia

The Minister for Health in Australia has announced three shortlisted teams for the development of AUD 1.5 billion (USD 1.02 billion) Footscray Hospital PPP project in Melbourne.

The Footscray Hospital will feature 504 beds and will be built next to Victoria University’s Footscray Park campus, on the corner of Geelong and Ballarat Roads and will replace the current hospital that was built in the 1950s.

It will open in 2025, and create up to 2,000 jobs during construction and the operating phases of the hospital.

The consortia shortlist is:

  • Advance West – comprising Tetris Capital, John Holland, John Holland Services and ISS
  • Examplar Health – comprising Capella Capital, Lendlease and Spotless
  • Plenary Health – comprising Plenary Group, Multiplex, Honeywell and Compass.

The winner will be announced next year, with construction expected to start later in 2020 and the project to be completed by 2025.

The bigger and better Footscray Hospital will cut wait times and allow almost 15,000 additional patients to be treated and almost 20,000 additional patients to be seen at the emergency department each year.

The Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos said: “This is another big milestone on our way to building the $1.5 billion Footscray Hospital – the single biggest hospital project in Victoria’s history to date. We’ve conducted a worldwide search to find the very best construction companies to build the world-class Footscray Hospital.”
