The transaction concerns STRABAG SE’s acquisition of 100% of the shares in BAWI Construction SRL, a Bucharest-based company specialising in railway infrastructure services in Romania. STRABAG announced the acquisition in June 2026, and the transaction was subsequently completed after receiving all required regulatory approvals. The acquisition became effective on 30 September 2026.
BAWI Construction provides a broad range of railway infrastructure services, including railway construction and modernisation, specialised railway works and in-house production of railway components. The company’s technical expertise, local market knowledge and established customer relationships complement STRABAG’s existing railway construction activities in Romania.
At the time of the acquisition, BAWI had approximately 240 employees and recorded an output volume of around €60 million in 2025. Following the transaction, BAWI has become part of the STRABAG Group, while its existing expertise and operational capabilities are expected to support STRABAG’s railway business in the Romanian market.
Strategically, the acquisition is intended to strengthen STRABAG’s position in Romania and the wider Southeast European railway infrastructure market. By combining BAWI’s local expertise and customer relationships with STRABAG’s existing capabilities, the group expects to deepen its value chain and enhance its ability to pursue railway infrastructure projects in the region.
