Colombia’s national infrastructure agency (ANI) has awarded a consortium of firms the supervision contract for the US$3.25 billion Canal del Dique rehabilitation PPP.

The selected consortium will be responsible to:

  • maintain control of sediment transit between the canal and the bays of Cartagena and Barbacoas;
  • mitigate the risk of flooding by controlling water levels in the canal, as well as guaranteeing access to drinking water for riverside communities;
  • improve the marsh-to-marsh and marsh-to-canal connections; and
  • restore the ecosystems of the Corales del Rosario and San Bernardo National Natural Park.

The project will be divided into 14 functional units, along with a functional unit zero. The latter will encompass two activities, namely navigability and tuning, as well as operation and maintenance.
