The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) has invited expressions of interest from domestic and international investors for the construction of six priority road projects with a total length of about 969 km under public-private partnerships (PPPs).
The projects include the expansion and upgrading of the 260 km Morogoro-Dodoma highway, which links the country's commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, with the administrative capital, Dodoma; the construction of the 384 km Handeni-Kiberashi-Chemba-Kwamtoro-Singida road; and the expansion of the 246 km Chalinze-Segera-Tanga highway, a key route that will strengthen connectivity between the country's northern regions and the Port of Tanga. The remaining projects include the 27-km Kitonga bypass in the Iringa region; a 42 km expressway connecting the Port of Dar es Salaam to Kibaha, intended to help reduce traffic congestion caused by heavy trucks along the corridor; and a 10 km expressway linking downtown Dar es Salaam with Julius Nyerere International Airport.
These infrastructure projects will link Tanzania's major cities, ports, and key economic centers, improving transport connectivity, enhancing logistics efficiency, and supporting trade and overall economic growth. TANROADS has already begun accepting applications to participate in the projects. Investors are being offered a design, build, finance, operate, maintain and transfer (DBFOMT) model, which makes it possible to attract private capital to the development of strategic road infrastructure.
