Wates Residential has been appointed by Trivallis as the development partner for the regeneration of Penrhys in South Wales.
Trivallis and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council have identified Penrhys as a major regeneration opportunity, with a long-term vision to establish a revitalised and sustainable community. The plans include the construction of hundreds of new homes, enhancements to public spaces, improved community facilities and investment in essential infrastructure.
The appointment marks a significant milestone in a regeneration initiative that has been in development for several years. Since launching its plans for Penrhys in 2021, Trivallis has carried out extensive community consultation, site assessments and masterplanning to support the project's future delivery.
In its role as development partner, Wates Residential will collaborate with Trivallis to further develop and implement the regeneration plans, facilitating the delivery of new homes and contributing to the community’s long-term renewal. The initial phase of the partnership will concentrate on advancing Phase 1A of the regeneration programme, for which planning proposals have already been submitted.
The appointment comes amid a continued focus on housing provision and regeneration across Wales. The Welsh Government has pledged to deliver at least 20,000 additional social homes by 2030, with large-scale regeneration initiatives expected to contribute significantly to expanding housing availability and strengthening local communities. The contract with Wates is anticipated to be signed in the coming weeks, enabling the project to progress from planning towards implementation. Meanwhile, Trivallis continues to engage with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, with the aim of obtaining planning permission by the end of the year.
