Webuild, a leading global construction firm, has commenced the second macrophase of the Venezia Station project on Rome's Metro Line C, a critical infrastructure initiative blending modern urban development with the preservation of ancient heritage. This phase follows the successful completion of the initial macrophase in June 2023, which involved extensive utility relocations, the installation of 124 diaphragm walls—some plunging up to 85 meters deep—and the excavation of 35,000 cubic meters of soil, alongside the pouring of 35,000 cubic meters of concrete and the deployment of 4,700 tons of steel for structural reinforcement. Archaeological digs, overseen by Rome's Special Superintendency, unearthed significant Roman and medieval remnants, including traces of the ancient Via Flaminia and residential "insulae" complexes, underscoring the site's rich historical layers.

Now, the Metro C Consortium—led by Webuild in partnership with Vianini Lavori and commissioned by Roma Metropolitane for the City of Rome—will advance soil consolidation, finalize the station's structural box with additional walls, complete remaining utility shifts, and conduct deeper excavations reaching 4-5 meters below ground, including a new shaft along Via dei Fori Imperiali. Over 1,500 monitoring instruments safeguard nearby landmarks like Trajan's Forum and the Basilica Ulpia from construction impacts. As part of the broader 29-km Line C network, which already boasts 23 km and 24 operational stations, the Venezia project integrates with the ongoing 4-km Section T2 linking to Clodio/Mazzini via stations like Chiesa Nuova and San Pietro—both designed as "archeo-stations" to celebrate Rome's past. This effort not only propels Webuild's portfolio, which spans over 890 km of metro lines worldwide, but also highlights Rome's commitment to sustainable mobility, with imminent openings of the Porta Metronia and Colosseo/Fori Imperiali stations slated for December 2025, paving the way for enhanced connectivity in the Eternal City's historic core.
