The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received two bids—from JSW and Raymond—for the development of a helipad at Worli jetty along Mumbai’s Coastal Road.
The helipad is designed to handle medium-category helicopters and will serve purposes such as medical evacuations, emergency evacuations, coastal monitoring, and VIP transport. Both bidding firms have previous experience in helicopter operations. Under the public-private partnership (PPP) structure, the operator must pay BMC a fixed monthly fee of ₹1 lakh, along with a share of the revenue generated from helicopter landings and take-offs.
The selected PPP partner will be required to include aesthetic features to improve the appearance of the Worli jetty precinct, ensuring it blends with the Coastal Road infrastructure and enhances the public-facing environment. The operator must also develop comprehensive architectural and engineering plans for the helipad and related facilities, while adhering to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regulations, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, and all other applicable aviation rules.
