The Ministry of Transport and Communications in Peru, through the National Telecommunications Program (Pronatel), has announced that broadband network concession for the Puno region will be operational soon. The concession has achieved an execution of 81% in the implementation of the nodes of the transport network and 26% in the access network. A total of 2,899 kilometers of fiber optics will be deployed.
The project will begin partial operation in July which will benefit 225,000 citizens from 471 rural towns in Puno. The network will be partially operational in July and will be used by public institutions such as schools, medical posts, and police stations as well as public squares with free WiFi. Once completed, the project will connect with free WiFi to a total of 958 public institutions and 471 rural public squares.
