Peru signs Santa María - Santa Teresa highway concession

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) in Peru has signed contracts for two work packages of the Santa María - Santa Teresa highway project.

The first work package was signed with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and involves the execution of the improvement projects of the Santa María- Santa Teresa and Machu Picchu Hydroelectric Bridge. The road will be 31 kilometers long, with two lanes of 3.30 meters each, ditches, and side berms. The contract value for this work package is PEN333.8 million (US$84.75 million).

The second work package was signed with Cusco Highway Consortium, made up of the company China Railway Tunnel Group Co. Ltda. Peru Branch and the Grupo Constructor & Consultor Asociados SAC. The works involve the construction of the Machu Picchu Tunnel and Accesses. The contract value for this work package is PEN166.16 million (US$42.18 million). The tunnel will be 2 kilometers long with two lanes, a control center, gutters, culverts, and side berms.
